Almost all women have some cellulite. It is estimated that at least 85 percent of women over the age of 21 have at least some cellulite. It is caused by bands of cellulose that cause the skin to tighten in areas, causing a dimpled look. If you feel self conscious about cellulite around your upper thighs and buttocks, there is a solution that can help you feel better about your appearance. You should always explore all of your options, and consult a board certified plastic surgeon before undergoing any treatments of this type. This article should give you a good idea of what to expect and of whether or not you are a candidate. And, please, don’t hesitate to call with questions or schedule a consultation to learn more. We’re here to help.

If you’ve got cellulite dimples, you may want to consider Cellfina®. It is a new minimally-invasive procedure, available only from certified doctors, that provides long-lasting cellulite reduction on the thighs and buttocks. A single treatment can deliver results that last more than three years.

The procedure is currently only approved for use on the thighs and buttocks of women. So, if you are a woman who wants to reduce cellulite in those areas, you may be a good candidate.

The best candidates for Cellfina are:

  • Healthy, and have had a complete medical screening.
  • Have realistic expectations based on a consultation with their doctor.
  • Not allergic to anesthesia or certain medications.
  • Not taking any prescription or over-the-counter medications that could react negatively with the treatment.
  • In relatively good physical condition and are not significantly overweight.
  • Nonsmokers.

What Is Cellfina?

This FDA-cleared procedure is clinically proven to reduce the appearance of cellulite. It treats the cause of cellulite. The tension in the tight bands of tissue that create the dimpling effect is released, so skin can bounce back to its original, smooth texture. Results are often seen in as few as three days.

There is no need for general anesthesia. The minimally-invasive procedure uses a small, needle-size incision to release the bands of cellulite to smooth out the skin.

The procedure may only be performed by licensed physician. And, like any procedure, you’ll want the best qualified doctor you can find. We recommend only working with a board-certified plastic surgeon, or a certified doctor working under the supervision of a board-certified plastic surgeon.

What Should You Expect?

A single treatment can take as little as 45 minutes. Patients experience bruising and swelling. There is some tenderness. But, symptoms typically clear up completely in four to six weeks. Downtime is very limited, and while everyone’s experiences are different, most patients report returning to regular activities within one-to-two days.

When you arrive for your procedure, the area to be treated will be marked and photos will be taken. The marked areas are then treated after the area has been numbed. It is a very simple and straightforward procedure.

If you have isolated dimples in a few areas, they may be completely eliminated by your treatment. The same goes for a few a dimples depressions in an isolated area. And, while the treatment is also effective for areas of significant cellulite, it won’t eliminate it 100 percent. It will, however, make tremendous difference in your appearance. Schedule a consultation to get the best information about whether or not you are a good candidate.

Who Is Not A Candidate

If you don’t have cellulite, you are not a candidate. Cellfina is not a fat elimination system like CoolSculpting. If you have belly, arm, chin or other areas of exercise resistant fat that you want to eliminate, CoolSculpting is a better choice. Call us to schedule a CoolSculpting consultation.

If your skin is wavy rather than dimpled, you may not be a good candidate. Cellfina is approved for, and effective for dimpled cellulite.

You are probably not a good candidate for Cellfina if you:

  • Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant in the next three months.
  • Are not in generally good physical condition, or are excessively overweight.
  • Have a current infection near the treatment area, or other significant infection.
  • Are suffering from diabetes.
  • Are allergic to epinephrine or lidocaine.
  • Have significant varicose veins or other vein-related illnesses.
